JOSE ALFONSO CUNI
JOSE ALFONSO CUNI was born in 1924 in Barcelona, Spain. He studied painting under the tutelage of La Longa and graduated from the prestigious Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. From 1952 to 1956, Cuni taught and conducted developmental research at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.

Cuni honed his expertise in mural painting in the studio of Don Ramón Stolz Viciano while preparing and completing the Gran Cúpula del Rosario in Zaragoza. His dedication to mastering mural techniques laid a strong foundation for his artistic career.

Between 1959 and 1970, Cuni traveled and studied extensively in France and Italy. In 1961, he received a grant from the Fundación de Marzo to study the frescoes of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Paestum in Naples. His research over several decades led to the rediscovery of ancient pigment formulas, which had been lost for centuries. This remarkable achievement resulted in the production and sale of these pigments under the family name "Cuni" in Europe.

In 1967, the French government invited Cuni to visit Paris, and in 1970, he was named an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Madrid. Since the early 1960s, Cuni has participated in numerous prestigious biennales, including the Venice Biennale, Berlin Biennale, São Paulo Biennale, Honolulu Biennale, Ljubljana Biennale, and the Polish Biennale.

Cuni's contributions to the art world, particularly in the field of mural painting, have left an indelible mark. His work continues to inspire and influence artists and art enthusiasts worldwide.
